Untreated Blue Sapphires - Unheated Ceylon Loose Stones

Untreated Blue Sapphires - Unheated Ceylon Loose Stones

Unheated blue sapphire is the world's most iconic coloured gemstone in its rarest, most collectible form - corundum coloured by trace iron and titanium, showing its entirely natural colour without any thermal enhancement. This collection is our flagship: natural, unheated blue sapphires sourced directly from Sri Lanka, the historic home of fine sapphire mining. For a complete explanation of what unheated means and why it commands a premium, see our heated vs unheated guide. For why Ceylon origin matters, see our Ceylon sapphire origin guide.

Why Our Unheated Ceylon Blue Sapphires

Every stone is hand-selected from rough we source through direct relationships with Sri Lankan miners and cutters. Unheated stones are significantly rarer than heated equivalents and carry greater collectible and investment value - the premium runs 30-200% depending on size and colour. Premium pieces ship with GIA reports confirming no indications of heating. Select pieces are eligible for our Try-On programme.

Browse by Carat Weight

We separate our unheated Ceylon blues by size tier: under 1 carat for accessible entry-point stones, over 1 carat for engagement ring centre stones with strong presence, and over 2 carats for serious collector and investment acquisitions - all GIA-certified at this tier.

How to Choose an Unheated Blue Sapphire

Colour. Cornflower blue (medium-vivid, slightly violet-leaning) and royal blue (medium-dark, vivid, pure blue) are the most prized positions. Avoid stones that appear inky under indoor lighting. Cut. Oval and cushion are most common. Round, emerald cut, and radiant unheated blues are rarer and command a cut premium. Documentation. GIA laboratory report confirming no indications of heating is essential for any serious unheated purchase above $500 per carat. See our guide to reading a GIA report.

Unheated Blue Sapphire for Engagement Rings, Collectors, and Jyotish

For engagement ring buyers, an unheated blue sapphire is the natural-colour version of the most historically important engagement ring stone in existence. See our sapphire engagement ring guide and our blue sapphire engagement ring guide. For collectors and investors, unheated Ceylon blue with GIA documentation is one of the most historically stable investment categories in natural gemstones - see our investment gemstones collection. For Jyotish buyers seeking Neelam for Saturn, unheated is non-negotiable - see our Jyotish sapphire guide.
