Orange Sapphire Gemstones - Bold Colored Loose Stones

Orange Sapphire Gemstones - Bold Colored Loose Stones

Orange sapphire is one of the boldest and rarest colours in the sapphire family - a vivid expression of natural corundum coloured by trace chromium and iron, ranging from warm coral and fiery tangerine through deep sunset orange. It carries the full Mohs 9 durability that makes sapphire ideal for engagement rings and statement jewellery, and offers a presence that almost no other gemstone matches. For a comparison of all sapphire colours, see our sapphire colours guide.

Why Our Ceylon Orange Sapphires

Our orange sapphires are sourced from Sri Lanka through our direct buying offices in Colombo, Beruwala, and Ratnapura. We carry both unheated and heat-treated pieces - treatment status is disclosed on every product page. Premium stones ship with GIA reports. Every stone is photographed under standardised lighting so the vivid colour you see online matches what arrives in your hand. The majority are eligible for our Try-On programme. For why Ceylon origin matters, see our Ceylon sapphire origin guide.

A note on padparadscha. Padparadscha is a specific, lab-certified sapphire colour defined as a balanced pink-orange. Some of our orange sapphires lean toward that range, but we do not call any stone padparadscha unless a lab report confirms it. Email us and we can source a certified padparadscha to specification.

How to Choose an Orange Sapphire

Hue. Orange sapphire ranges from peachy-orange through pure orange into reddish-orange. Pure, saturated orange without brownish or reddish modifiers is the most prized position. Adjacent colour families: peach sapphire sits at the softer pink-orange end; ruby at the saturated red end. Orange sits at the bold, vivid centre.

Heated vs unheated. Orange sapphire is available in both forms. For buyers who specifically need unheated material - for collection, investment, or Jyotish purposes - see our complete unheated sapphire collection. See our heated vs unheated guide for full detail on how treatment affects value.

Cut. Oval and cushion cuts concentrate and deepen orange saturation beautifully. Emerald cuts reveal the colour in an open, architectural window display. For non-standard outlines, see our fancy cut collection.

Setting and metal. Orange sapphire is most dramatic with yellow gold - the warm metal and warm stone create one of the richest complementary colour combinations in jewellery design. White gold cools the colour and makes it appear more vivid. See our sapphire engagement ring guide for full metal and setting advice.

Orange Sapphire for Engagement Rings and Statement Jewellery

Orange sapphire makes a bold, distinctive engagement ring centre stone for buyers who want something completely different from the blue or teal mainstream. Its Mohs 9 hardness makes it entirely suitable for daily wear. For engagement-appropriate orange sapphires over 1 carat, browse our fancy sapphires for engagement rings collection, which includes curated orange pieces alongside teal, violet, and blue in non-standard cuts.
