Fancy Cut Sapphires - Unique Loose Stones for Designers

Fancy Cut Sapphires - Unique Loose Stones for Designers

Fancy Cut Sapphires is the trade term for any sapphire cut outside the standard repertoire of round, oval, cushion, emerald, and radiant. It covers kite shapes, marquise, hexagon, shield, lozenge, heart, half-moon, freeform, and any cut where the lapidary has chosen geometry over convention. Fancy-cut sapphires are favourites among independent designers, art-jewellery buyers, and anyone who wants a stone that does not look like anything else in a glass case. For our curated selection of fancy-cut stones most suited to engagement rings, see our fancy sapphires for engagement rings collection.

Why Fancy Cut Sapphires from Crescent Gems

Every fancy cut in this collection is one of one. We do not repeat shapes - each stone is cut individually from rough that suggested that specific geometry. The majority are unheated - see our heated vs unheated guide. Premium pieces ship with GIA reports. All stones are photographed under standardised lighting so the cut character is clearly visible.

Common Fancy Cuts We Carry

Kite. A four-sided diamond-like outline, increasingly popular for east-west settings and bezel-set designer rings. Available in blue and teal when in stock. Marquise. Elongated football shape with two pointed ends. Reads vintage and dramatic - suits peach and pink sapphires particularly well. Hexagon. Six-sided geometry, often step-faceted. The signature shape of modern minimalist designers. Shield. Five or six-sided shapes that taper at the bottom. Often used as side stones flanking a centre - pairs with our matched sapphire pairs. Half-moon. Semicircular outline, typically step-faceted. Classic three-stone side stone flanking a round or oval centre. Freeform and custom. Cuts that follow the rough rather than a defined geometry. Each is unique.

Colours Available in Fancy Cuts

Fancy cuts are available across the full sapphire colour spectrum when in stock: blue - teal - purple - violet - orange - pink - peach - yellow. Availability is by nature of the rough - email crescentgems@gmail.com if you have a specific shape and colour in mind and we can source or cut to your specification. For Ceylon origin context, see our Ceylon sapphire origin guide.

14-day return. Select pieces are available for Try-On. Free US shipping.
