Asscher cut sapphires combine a square outline with deep stepped facets and large cropped corners, producing the distinctive "hall of mirrors" reflection of an emerald cut in a balanced square format. The cut was originally developed for diamond in 1902 by the Asscher Brothers of Amsterdam and has since become a defining shape of art deco design — geometric, symmetrical, and unmistakably elegant.
Looking for an Asscher cut sapphire?
We don't currently have any Asscher cut sapphires in stock — they are one of the rarest shapes to find in natural sapphire because they require exceptional rough with very high clarity (the step facets reveal every inclusion) and a near-perfect square crystal structure to cut economically. We cut Asschers on commission when we have the right rough available.
If you want an Asscher cut sapphire, email crescentgems@gmail.com with your target color, size (carat or millimeter), and budget. We can either source it from our current parcel, schedule a cut from rough, or refer you to a colleague who may have one in stock now.
