Try before you buy— See Your Loose Gemstone Before You Buy
Try before you buy Buying a loose gemstone online without seeing it first is a leap of faith — even with high-resolution photos under standardized lighting, color reads differently in person, scale feels different against your finger, and you can't replace the experience of holding a stone in your hand under the light of your own home. Try before you buy program solves that problem. Every stone in this collection can be sent to you to evaluate in person before you commit to the purchase.
How Try before you buy works
You select the stone (or stones) you want to evaluate, complete the standard checkout, and we authorize your payment method rather than charging it. We ship the stone via FedEx or UPS, fully insured. You have a set time window to see the stone in your hand, compare it under different lighting, hold it against a setting if you're commissioning a piece, or simply decide whether it's the one. If you keep the stone, the payment processes. If you return it within the window, you owe nothing beyond return shipping.
For exact mechanics — payment authorization period, return shipping, eligibility outside the US — email crescentgems@gmail.com. We confirm details for your order before shipping.
Why we offer Try-On
Three reasons:
- Color reads differently in person. Our photos are accurate, but daylight in Phoenix differs from kitchen lighting in Boston. A stone you're going to wear for decades deserves to be evaluated under your own light.
- Scale matters more than carat weight. A 1.2 carat oval can look bigger or smaller on your hand depending on cut depth and finger size. Try-On lets you confirm before commitment.
- Custom jewelers benefit. If you're commissioning a piece, holding the stone alongside your setting mock-up or design CAD is invaluable. Photos can't replace that.
What's eligible
The 140+ stones in this collection are pre-approved for Try-On. Most loose sapphires, tsavorites, and chrysoberyl pieces in our catalog qualify. The very highest-value pieces (typically over $5,000) may require additional verification — we'll let you know when you check out.
Trust signals
14-day standard return policy applies to every order, Try-On or not. We're a US-registered LLC (Wyoming) shipping internationally via FedEx and UPS with full insurance. Email crescentgems@gmail.com with questions before ordering — we respond personally within one business day.
