How to choose a round sapphire
Calibration. Round sapphires are sized in millimeters first, then weighed in carats. A 5mm round sapphire typically weighs 0.65–0.75 carats; a 6mm typically 1.00–1.15 carats. Density varies by stone, so always check the listed mm dimension if matching to a setting.
Brilliance. A well-cut round shows even light return across the face — no dark "fish eye" in the center, no light leakage at the edges. We cut for performance, not weight retention.
Color performance. Round sapphires concentrate light return more than they spread color across the surface, so they suit medium-to-vivid colors particularly well. Pale colors can look slightly washed in rounds — for pale stones, oval or cushion may show color better.
Setting compatibility. Round is the most universally compatible shape — works in every solitaire, every halo, every channel, every pavé. If you're not sure what your jeweler can mount, a round is the safest choice.
