Most rough yields finished stones under 1 carat; stones that yield a clean 2ct+ finished gem in fine color are a small fraction of total production. The result is a price curve that isn't linear — a 2ct fine tsavorite doesn't cost roughly twice a 1ct stone of the same quality, it costs several times more, purely on scarcity of the rough.
