Expert Opinion
Ahmed Shareek's Assessment
"This one is a 2.48 carat cushion, and it comes with a GIA Sapphire Report whose fields you can read for yourself. Face-up, at normal viewing distance, it looks eye-clean to me; under magnification you can see inclusions. Ask me for more images and look at it before you decide."
What the Report Records
The limit of our own reporting. We report the fields GIA printed on this document. Where we add a view of our own, such as our sourcing record, the clarity assessment, the setting advice and the cleaning preference, we mark it as ours.
Read it yourself. The report is reproduced in the images on this page, and GIA's own service at reportcheck.gia.edu returns the same fields against the report number. Check it there, and ask us for anything else you want to see before you buy.
Geographic origin. The Geographic Origin field reads Not Requested: an origin opinion was not requested from GIA for this report.
Treatment. Under Treatment, the report reads No Indications of Heating. That is a finding about heat, and it is what we mean when we call this stone unheated.
Comments. The report's Comments field reads None.
Jyotish. If you are sourcing an unheated stone for Jyotish (Vedic astrology) use, the heat finding you are looking for is printed on the document: No Indications of Heating.
Cutting style, one field. The report gives a single cutting-style field: Modified Brilliant Cut. It does not describe the crown and the pavilion separately.
Our Clarity Assessment
Face-up, at normal viewing distance, we describe it as eye-clean. Under magnification inclusions are visible. That is our own assessment rather than a report value, because a GIA colored-stone report carries no clarity grade.
Our Sourcing Record
This stone was mined in Sri Lanka and bought by us there. That record is ours, not a laboratory finding.
Buying Guidance
A few practical points to weigh before purchasing this specific stone:
-
Read GIA Sapphire Report #6214932903 against the stone. Check the report number, the carat weight, the measurements, the shape, the cutting style, the color, the transparency and the Treatment entry against the physical stone before you finalize the purchase.
-
Look at the whole face-up view. Ask us for more images and video, and judge the stone face-up for yourself before you decide.
-
Plan the setting around the stone's proportions. It is sold loose, for your own jeweler to set. A cushion outline has rounded corners. We would choose a setting that protects those corners and holds the girdle securely all the way around; that is our own recommendation.

Care
GIA publishes its own cleaning guidance for sapphire. We prefer warm soapy water and a soft brush to ultrasonic or steam cleaners, because we cannot see how a stone is held once it is set. That preference is ours, not a condition carried on the report.
- Clean with lukewarm water and mild soap using a soft brush
- Store separately to avoid surface contact
- Once it is set, take it off for heavy physical work
