Expert Opinion
Ahmed Shareek's Assessment
"An oval suits a ring well because it has no sharp points to catch. Before you buy, watch the videos of this stone and look up the report number on GIA's own site. That is what I would do."

The Cut
The crown, the upper part of the stone, is cut with modified brilliant facets. The pavilion, the lower part, is cut with step facets. The trade calls this combination a mixed cut. The oval measures 8.51 mm long and 6.91 mm wide, and it is 5.34 mm deep.
Our Sourcing Record
We buy in Sri Lanka through our offices in Colombo, Beruwala and Ratnapura, and this sapphire came to us that way. Sri Lanka is the origin in our own sourcing record. That record is ours, not a laboratory finding.
Clarity
In our own assessment, the stone shows minor inclusions under 10× magnification and looks eye-clean at a normal viewing distance. GIA colored-stone reports carry no clarity grade, so this is our description, not GIA's.

Durability
GIA's published guidance on sapphire gives corundum a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, which measures scratch resistance, and rates its toughness as excellent. Both are properties of the mineral, not tests of this stone, and this report does not print them.
Care
GIA publishes its own cleaning guidance for sapphire, which treats ultrasonic and steam cleaning as usually safe for heat-treated stones. We prefer lukewarm water, mild soap and a soft brush for a stone we have not set ourselves, because we cannot see how it will be held. That is our preference, not a warning from the report. Store it apart from other jewelry, and once it is set, take it off for heavy physical work.
One of a Kind
This is a single natural sapphire, not a laboratory-grown stone. The stone described on GIA Sapphire Report 2235709040 is the stone you receive.
