Buying a loose gemstone gives you independence, you get the freedom to make your own choice, your own jewelry design.
A 2.17 carat natural yellow sapphire, cushion and unheated, documented by GIA Sapphire Report 1236922088 of 24 April 2026. The report prints Weight: 2.17 carats; our own scale reads the stone at 2.175 ct, and that second figure is ours rather than the report’s.
A Note From Our Gemologist
Ahmed Shareek, founder of Crescent Gems:
“GIA printed Color: Yellow for this stone, plain, with no qualifier and no intensity printed after it, so plain yellow is the only colour word I put on it. This stone was mined in Sri Lanka and I bought it there. That sourcing is my own record and it is not a laboratory finding. The report prints Geographic Origin: Not Requested. Face-up I see no inclusions in it with the unaided eye, and under magnification I do see inclusions. That is my own assessment and not a GIA grade, because a GIA colored-stone report carries no clarity grade.”

The Comments Field on the Report
GIA Sapphire Report 1236922088 prints one comment, and these are its words: “This stone passed GIA's color stability test.”
How This Stone Is Cut
- GIA prints the shape as Cushion.
- GIA prints two separate cutting-style fields: Cutting Style: Crown reads Modified Brilliant Cut, and Cutting Style: Pavilion reads Step Cut.
- The report prints no third field joining those two into a single whole-stone cut name, so this page names the two halves the report names and gives the stone no cut label of its own.
- Measurements reads 8.20 x 6.02 x 4.50 mm — length, then width, then depth. The outline is longer than it is wide, and Rectangular Cushion is our own shape word for that outline; the report’s own shape field reads Cushion.
- The report issues no cut grade, no polish grade and no symmetry grade.
Our Sourcing Record
- Mined in Sri Lanka, and bought by us in Sri Lanka.
- That sourcing record is Crescent Gems’ own and it is not a laboratory finding.
- GIA Sapphire Report 1236922088 prints Geographic Origin: Not Requested, which means origin testing was not ordered. It is not a finding, and it is not a doubt.
- Ceylon is the trade’s older name for Sri Lanka, and on this page it is our own word. It names the island, and it says nothing about the quality of a stone that comes from it.
Our Clarity Assessment
Eye-clean face-up: looking at the stone through the table with the unaided eye we see no inclusions in it. Under magnification inclusions are visible. That is our own assessment, in our own words. A GIA colored-stone report carries no clarity grade, and this report grades no clarity.
Buying Guidance
- Check the document yourself: GIA Sapphire Report 1236922088 can be looked up at reportcheck.gia.edu.
- Weight: the report prints Weight: 2.17 carats. Our own scale reads 2.175 ct, and we mark that figure as ours wherever we print it.
- Treatment: the Additional Results field reads No Indications of Heating, which is a finding about heating. We describe the stone as unheated on that strength, and we say nothing here about any other treatment category. If another category matters to you, ask us and ask for the testing that addresses it.
- Origin: what we state is a sourcing record of ours, not a laboratory determination, and the report records that origin was not requested. If a laboratory origin opinion matters to you, ask for a report that includes one.
- Clarity: what this page says about clarity is our own observation. Ask us for more photographs, or for a personal video of the stone, and judge it for yourself.
- If you are sourcing an unheated stone for Jyotish (Vedic astrology) use, the heat finding you are looking for is printed on the document: No Indications of Heating.
- Returns: if the stone is not right for you, return it within 14 days of delivery for a full refund.

Care
- Clean with lukewarm water and mild soap using a soft brush
- Store separately to avoid surface contact
- Remove before heavy physical activity
GIA publishes its own cleaning guidance for sapphire and attaches its own conditions to it. We prefer not to put a stone we did not set through an ultrasonic or a steam cleaner, because we cannot see how it is held. That preference is ours, and it is not a warning from the report.
